Is there a way to change the width of fieldgroup. My group takes up the entire width of the page and floats below my menu.

I believe you'll have to post a screenshot to describe what you mean. I visited your link a was unable to see anything wrong.

Anyway, this could be a theme related issue. So I would suggest trying with Garland and see if that makes a difference.
