Currently, the #310069: Database API overview documentation only explains the syntax and building of #310072: Static queries and #310075: Introduction to dynamic queries but it does not explain the use cases (when to choose a dynamic query rather than a static query and the opposite) or the differences between the two types of queries (in terms of performance specifically).

I'm not comfortable enough with Database API to write about this, so I make this a task and leave it up for grabs, hoping someone more qualified with this new system will help.

Oops... It seems the [#<nid>] tag is not working for documentation pages. I was talking about Static queries and Dynamic queries.

Looks like someone has updated the static query page to explain that static queries are only used for simple requests.
