robertgarrigos commentedto the infrastructure people: we have our own l10n server with many strings and suggestions. please, let me know how should I proceed to get this in the system. thanks
Comment #11
killes@www.drop.org commentedThe problem is that we can currently only import approved strings into the new server. If you wand to import your suggestions too, you need to write an import script.
gábor hojtsyOr wait until the import script gets written by someone.

re: "Or wait until the import script gets written by someone."
Is there an issue for such a request? If not, any hint on where to start looking at how it should be done? specs?
@robert: is it viable to start importing approved translations and import suggestions later?
gábor hojtsyWe do not have an issue yet. Feel free to open one in the l10n_server queue. You'd need to make up a format which can handle multiple translations per one string. Technically (by spec) gettext .po files are not capable of that, but theoretically, our handling of them does not disallow that. So you need to find a format first (maybe gettext .po, depending on your testing results), then write code which such teams can use to export their suggestions and write code which localize.drupal.org can use to import such suggestions.

markus_petrux commented@Gábor: Thanks for the hints.
@robertgarrigos: Looking at the overview page of the catalan translation, it says that we have "11661 translations recorded" and "187 suggestions awaiting approval". Do we have more than that? If not, then maybe we can just export approved translations, which is something that seems to be possible today. And then, if we or someone else writes the suggestions export/import script, we could migrate those later. Thoughts?
robertgarrigos commentedI was asking this because that's what it is stated on the footer of the localize.d.o website:
If the answer is it cannot be done yet I would just change that message ;-)
It is fine for me to import only the approved strings first and leave the suggestions for later. How would it be done?
gábor hojtsyYes, we need you to state whether you need your suggestion imported, since if you do, we put you on a list waiting for later addition, since we cannot add you right away obviously. When migrating to localize.drupal.org, we request you to turn off your existing translation server, so that no future contributions are submitted there. That would ensure that people have one source of data instead of scratching their head on what is the good source. So we'd prefer you migrate all data at once. Going through 128 suggestions and approve/decline them does sound like a non-achievable task if so many active team members are on the team as demonstrated above.

markus_petrux commented@Gábor: I'm trying to evaluate if it really worths an import/export script for suggestions. Do you know if there are more groups interested in such a feature?
gábor hojtsy@Markus: My assessment so far was that this need is limited to a small number of groups. Or maybe those, who would need those suggestions are holding out joining (they have no issues).
markus_petrux commentedOk, so here's a feature request for l10n_server: #572676: Export suggestions in .po files. Let's see how many groups would have a need to import suggestions to l.d.o, and if it really worths, then maybe we can do something about it.

gábor hojtsyNote that there is a new moderation feature in the very latest l10n_server (committed from #570648: Add mass moderations screen for suggestions (+ user filtering)), that should be easy to use to moderate off those 187 suggestions quickly and be ready to move to the central server as-is. robertgarrigos commentedThat's right. We 'only' have 187 suggestions and I will look at them tpo clear the list. I would say we are ready for an import of the translated strings.
gábor hojtsyLet me know when you are ready with your review, so we can migrate. If you keep that existing server open, then we end up in a misleading situation where people don't know where to contribute.
robertgarrigos commentedwe are ready.

robertgarrigos commentedour suggestion list is clean. thanks

gábor hojtsyCreated team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/ca
Please expect that there might be bumps in the service. You are among the beta-tester of this live instance. Thanks for helping out and please report issues as you find them! Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations.
Also note that I've set this up so that it uses a controlled model (that group admins moderate translations). If you'd rather work in an open model (that everyone can directly submit translations), that is up to you and you can edit your group node to reconfigure anytime.
Consequently, I've also removed the team's listing from the standalone servers at http://drupal.org/project/l10n_server
I sincerely hope that all of you jump on translating to Catalan as much as enthusiastic you are about settings up this team!
Welcome on board!
