When I create a ddblock as user 1, I don't see the images or the or overlayed text (using upright 50). Viewing the source shows that the images and text aren't even in the markup for the page. But when I view the page as anyone else (as both anonymous and authenticated users) everything looks fine. In permissions I have "administer dynamic display blocks" set to admin, and "view dynamic display blocks" set for everyone. also all view image permissions are set to everyone.

Maybe clearing the cache helps at:

Administer > Site configuration > permissions
