Hi,

In a site I am building I add links to MP3 files which are stored in OTHER servers (like odeo.com).

Questions:
1. Could I make file_force work for me.If yes, how?
2. If not, is there any other option?

Thanks!

Sorry, cross-server linking like this is immoral, possibly illegal, and all-around repugnant. I'm not going to help you with it.

Hi Garrett,

I may have misled you bu not pointing out the context. There are no immoral issues here.

Context:
When you upload an audio file to odeo.com it not only give you a way to PLAY the file (and embed it in your site) but also DOWNLOAD the MP3 file. This is given publicly and not in any way hacked. Moreover, the link to be used is a related one to an audio file that my client is uploading herself (via embedded media field).

See: http://www.odeo.com/episodes/25077345-Should-We-Believe-Feng-Shui
There is a tab Download under the stream player.

Willing to help?...

Thanks!

Okay, well, even so, though it's theoretically possible, it's still more feasible for the operators of a server to be the ones to do the setup to make sure files are downloaded properly. Sorry.

Did you have any luck with this?

I am in a similar situation with a client as they want to use their hosting but it won't allow large uploads, therefore I am hosting the audio on another server and wanted to create a link that will be displayed using the 1 pixel out player. Currently it defaults to using quicktime or flowplayer unless I create a custom node.tpl.php and use the swf() function.

No, I did not find a solution for this - I just add an explanation to the user how to download (right-click etc...)

However, your example proves that this is not a moral issue but rather a technical one...

I have to say, this would be helpful for me as well. I have a videography site and I keep all my videos on a different server so as to not slow down the one that delivers my site files.
