I would imagine this would be taken care of by a separate module. If anything this module would know to show that "hide me" checkbox if the other module was enabled and configured.

What exactly does "hide online" mean?

If it hides the user from showing in the Online Users block then it's definitely beyond the scope of this module.

As per jjeff's comment at #2 this module specifically focuses on changing the default behavior of the drupal session timeout period.

The addition of the check box on the login form is purely to disable the storing of a session after cookie expiry. Adding more functionality would be best served by an additional module in order to minimize the complexity of this functionality.
