If user enables this mode for certain node types:
1. On node creation and save, a shorturl will be automatically generated/updated/deleted
2. On node load - node's shorturl will be attached to the node object, giving themers full flexibility of how they want to use it.

I think this will be a very flexible way to support shorturl permalinks.

I consider this very important. Is there any other way to combine the actions of shortening the url + adding a node?

This issue was filed against the previous Drupal 6/7 module that used this project namespace.

The namespace has been taken over and the module has been replaced by a completely new and unrelated project for Drupal 10/11.

The original code remains available in the 6.x-1.x branch.
