Display online status in custom user-list view (block & page)

Hi,

I have created a view using the Views 2 module to display all users registered on my site. I have a block and a page view. In the block view, the name and picture of the users are displayed in a grid. 3 users are displayed at any one time in the block, and there is a 'view all users' link, which links to the page view that lists all users on the site.

However I also want to display the online/offline status of each user in the block and in the page. This doesn't seem to be possible via the 'add field' of the Views interface.

In each user's individual profile, their online/offline status is displayed using the author pane module. How can I transfer this functionality to the view? Do i need to modify the template files? If so, which ones and with what?
