So... I'm trying to set up Drupal to manage multiple sites. I've got a dedicated server rented through ThePlanet.com, and I'm running cPanel to handle the mySQL database.
Thus far, I've at least gotten to a point where I get a Page Not Found (not a standard 404 message) error when I get to the page I've set up... and then a Fatal error: Duplicate entry error if I hit refresh. Before that, I was getting a page that was (or so I thought) going to allow me to create my first account. However, when I clicked any link, it took me to the index page for ZanyLand.com (the site where I'm trying to set it up), even though the URL was not that of the index page.
I saw in the instructions where it said something about flushing the database. There wasn't an option for that (at least none that I saw) within the php admin tool, but there was an "empty" command, which I used. It was after that point that I began getting the Page Not Found error.
Anyone else experienced similar problems, and if so, how did you fix it?
Thanks in advance.

I use a ThePlanet.com server
I use a ThePlanet.com server as well and have not experienced the issues you are seeing. I'd doublecheck your default site settings (base URL, etc.). You can always also delete the database and start over from scratch. ThePlanet is pretty good with support though the granularity of what you're after may not be something they cover (unless they are also managing your machine). I'd search around these forums for similar error message to what you are getting.
flush privileges
flush privileges is a mysql command, very similar to rehash on "nix".
You may need to reinstall the database and then run the "flush privileges" command.
Flushing and The Planet
Thanks for the info. Good to know that it may just be errors on my part.
How does one get to the command line for mysql in order to do the "flush priviliges" command? I've got the admin tool; do you normally run it from there, or do I need to go through ThePlanet to get to this function?

ZanyLand.com
run it from phpmyadmin
It's been along time since I've used phpmyadmin but, If I remember correctly, the command is run from the same form field you used to create the database and setup the privileges.
DB error
Duplicate error sounds like the watchdog is trying to insert an error report in to the database and it can't - because one is already there.
Can you TRUNCATE the watchdog/error table?
You should also be able to see more from the Apache/PHP error log.

Re: The Planet
Hello! I've used the planet services now for a year and seeing that it is a full control dedicated server many features and services can really be tweak-out to make Drupal powered sites shine. So, other tasks that you, as sysadmin, need to adjust Drupal and The-Planet makes a great team.
Mind you, they offer a slew of different servers, I am currently powered by; Red Hat EL, MySQL 4.0.25-standard, PHP 4.4.2, Apache 1.3.34, & CPanel 10.8.1-CURRENT.
Hope this helps you! Running dedicated is a smart choice... keep on working with the system. :-)

Ohhhh... so THAT'S the problem...
So, it turns out, if you don't put the files in the root directory, it does actually make a difference what you set the base URL to. As in, the base URL has to include the full path of the location for the Drupal files. I was only putting the root in there.
Anyway, looks like things are working as intended.
Now comes the hard part: Setting up the site like I want it.
Oh, and I never did run a "flush priviliges" on this. But it seems to be working anyway. Is this a case of "If it ain't broke..."?
Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

Theplanet Hosting - My experience
I just thought of trying their promise on ready to go server and have so far been very disappointed.
2 days since order placed - no verification call. I called them twice and was told someone will call soon. Got verification email this morning to which I replied. Yet nothing happened for 3 hours. Called Chat Support with order number - and was bounced around between cust reps and they seem to be lost.
Any feedback by others ? I know few Drupal sites are hosted there - I first liked their promise - server ready in 1 hour. Just wanted to see if I should pull the plug and try someone else.
