Seems taxonomy_redirect is not compatible with the taxonomy_breadcrumb (
http://drupal.org/project/taxonomy_breadcrumb).Links generated by taxonomy_breadcrumb have the same destination (like taxonomy/term/id) and no redirection happens.

Hm... I'm using both modules and haven't noticed any interference. Can you give example configurations for what you're using taxonomy_redirect?

Changing settings. Unless volucuga want this one of course.

It works with taxonomy_breadcrumb for drupal 6 but not drupal 5.
The problem is with taxonomy_breadcrumb and there is a patch that fixes it in #226845: Breadcrumbs not obeying Taxonomy Redirect
So until that patch gets committed to taxonomy_breadcrumb you will need to patch your version of taxonomy_breadcrumb
