Okay - so I have HEARD about this sort of thing - but I've never experienced it - until today.

I created a new content type - called Location. I immediately noticed that this node type did not show in the Simple Menu - Create Content pull down menu. Okay - so I thought I had a permissions issue. Went to my permissions node and spent the next ten minutes going crosseyed looking at over 1000 checkboxes. Updated my permissions after making sure I had added the new node type and given all appropriate permissions.

Still no pull down option. Okay - more than one way to skin a Drupal Cat - navigated to /node/add - selected Location - "you are not authorized to access this page." WHAT? But I OWN this bar! Don't tell me I can't drink here!!

Okay - so I even created a new "site admin" role and checked EVERY box possible. Still can't drink here. :(

Ran update.php - STILL can't drink here.

Logged Out and Back In - STILL can't drink here.

As much as I love this bar I hate it sometimes too!

What gives?? HELP!!

Cleared Cached Data - STILL can't drink.

Closed Browser - Reopened Browser - STILL can't drink.

On my way to reboot now. Maybe I need to reset my server and have a beer in another bar with another woman first! :)

Have you rebuilt the permissions? Find that at /admin/content/node-settings

I wonder if there is a 12-step program for bar owners denied permission. :)

I KNOW this can't be an isolated thing - anyone else seen anything like this?

OG Groups was the culprit!!!

I decided to disable the groups module as that was the last thing I added prior this issue appearing. Sure enough - now Location appears in my Simple Menu Create Content menu and I have access to the node type!!

Wonder if I can't use Groups?? Anyone else have issues with the OG groups module?

I am now seeing the exact same thing on the Core node type for Page, which does not show up in either my Create Content simple menu pull down OR my /Node/Add page listing the content types. This last piece (not showing on the /Node/Add page) is the only variation from what I initially saw in the first issue where I could not add Location. In that situation I DID see the Location content type listed on the /Node/Add page but got an error saying I was not authorized to access the page.

I have even deactivated Ubercart and several other modules to see if this may be a server memory issue (even though my server has 1GB of RAM). I have also rebuilt the permissions which did nothing.

Anyone have any ideas?
