Is there any way to let users get an email when a new comment is posted on their forum topic, in 4.7?

Thanks.

I am looking for the same thing but for 4.6. This is the most serious drawback of Drupal. It needs forum notification. Sending email notifications for new posts in a thread can drive a lot of traffic to a site.

I think the subscriptions module (that's subscriptions, not subscription) is supposed to provide that capability. With that module installed, when you create a forum topic, there's a check box where you can subscribe to the post so that you get notified of any comments.

However, I haven't been able to get Subscriptions to actually send out the email notifications. Same problem with the Notify module.

I'm thinking of just installing SMF in a subdirectory of Drupal. I'm not sure if that will work though. I want the forums to be on the same domain name (not subdomain), but users will only log into the forums. For what I am doing, they don't need to log into Drupal.

This seems like a pretty basic functionality to me. I'm quite surprised it's not there already.

It's definitely a must.

That is why there are contrib modules that supply you with the functionality. Not everyone needs are the same so your must is not someone else's must.

Sorry, didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. In my opinion it's a must-have for any forums, so in my opinion it would be a good core addition. You see, I think a majority would appreciate. Not sure, of course.
