gábor hojtsyDo you know of any pre-existing translation effort?
beautifulmindYes
Comment #3
gábor hojtsyA more extended reply would be good. Where can we see that effort?
beautifulmindHere is the link of the project for translating Drupal to Gujarati language.
http://drupal.org/project/gu
Regards.
gábor hojtsyOk, so what is your relation to that existing effort. We are trying to make sure not to fork efforts or start parallel platforms, but instead take on the existing work and continue from there with the agreement of existing contributors.
gábor hojtsyAre you still interested?
gábor hojtsyLooks like requestor lost interest. Marking this postponed (vs closed) in the interest of someone else finding it later, and continuing our discussion.
beautifulmindHi,
Thanks for you reply.
I have been interested since I started work with Drupal, but then I realized, its not easy to get reply.
Anyway, tell me about the steps or point me out an url so I can continue with translation.
Regards.
gábor hojtsyThe first step is that we put the existing efforts under the same roof. If the existing Gujarati translation efforts would intend to continue on the CVS based infrastructure for now, then we'll not set up a parallel team. That would end up on confusion.
beautifulmindOkay.
So, I should get access to CVS account of Gujarati language translation project and then I can continue with translation using some of the translation application, right?
Regards.
zirvap commentedYou don't need CVS access to contribute, you can add you translations to the issue queue of the project, and the maintainer can add them to CVS for you. See How to contribute by editing .po files for more information. (I found it wasn't very clear on how to improve translations, so I added a bit on that.)
The localization server makes it easier to contribute. If you'd like the Gujarati project to use the localization server instead of CVS, you need to get the rest of the Gujarati translators to agree to the move.
beautifulmindOkay. Thanks for all your advice. I'll try to get Gujarati on l.d.o so every one can contribute.
Regards.

beautifulmindAfter Having a consensus (no reply from the maintainers! http://drupal.org/node/693320), I request you to add Gujarati language to l.d.o.
Regards.

gábor hojtsySent existing Gujarati translation maintainer (http://drupal.org/node/693320) a contact mail. Let's see what we get back.
gábor hojtsyOk, did not get reply from the maintainer. Given he did not commit to this project in years, looks like we need to find another maintainer. Are you interested in taking http://drupal.org/project/gu over? (Which would only mean we could start the l.d.o project, not that you'd need to then commit files or maintain the CVS repository of the project).
beautifulmindSure, that's my pleasure.
Thanks a lot.
Regards.
avpadernoI passed the ownership of the project to beautifulmind.
beautifulmindThank you.
Should it now be considered for adding on l.d.o?
Regards.
gábor hojtsyOk, I've created the team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/gu and made @beautifulmind the initial owner / admin. He can add any number of other admins and manage group level permissions of people.
Please expect that there might be bumps in the service. You are among the beta-tester of this live instance. Thanks for helping out and please report issues as you find them! Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations.
Anybody can sign up for being a member of the team and they will be able to submit suggestions right away. The initial admin can change permissions of people signing up, widening their capabilities. See http://localize.drupal.org/node/616 for explanation on how. It is highly suggested to grant both moderation permissions to those who you also designate admins.
Welcome on board!

beautifulmindThanks a lot.
I'm able to commit 5 translation right away, though the l.d.o is now offline.
Regards.
