The Drupal Association has taken the first steps in implementing its new events plan. In this first phase, we will be working to schedule DrupalCons two years in advance, and we have established regional groups to manage this process. We have committed to adding a third annual DrupalCon that will float between regions not currently served by the European and North American Cons.

The Regional Organizing Groups are open to any interested party in the community, and free to choose their own structure and governance. They will select cities, choose local teams, and create programs for future DrupalCons. Australian, European, North American and South American Groups are forming or have formed and can be found on http://groups.drupal.org.

We are making these changes because DrupalCons are growing just as the Drupal community is growing and we expect that growth to continue and accelerate. We have committed to making DrupalCon available to anyone who wants to attend them, and this means that we need to select appropriate venues and work hard to be efficient in order to keep the ticket price affordable. The Drupal Events Plan is a work in progress and is available online for your review.

We are committed to having DrupalCons that serve the entire community while maintaining the sense of community that has been the hallmark of DrupalCon. You can become involved by joining the Drupal Association, taking part in a regional group and in your local Drupal group.

Note the "Australia" group is actually currently called the "Australasia" group and includes at least NZ. Possibly it would be better named Asia-Pacific in order to obviously include Asia and save confusiong between "Australia" and "Australasia". Please discuss this on groups.drupal.org instead of this page.

Where should comments and corrections on the events plan be discussed?

I pray that Asian territories be considered in the future.

Asia is a huge chunk of land... I try to understand why this massive area tends to be ignored. More than that, even if we have the resources to go abroad to attend a DrupalCon... we're going to tough it out with the embassies just to get hold of that glorified and luxurious visa.

I feel insignificant enough... I bet most of us (here) do. But we tend not to feel sorry because we have a richer culture, diverse community, and serene sceneries. That -- we wish to share with our fellow neighbors from the west.

Looking forward to participate in this divine intervention,

Marc Robinsone

I would be willing to look into organizing a DrupalCon in Japan

It's great to see more organization and open planning for these events. Sharing ideas, experiences, and resources between event producers, community leaders, and association members will definitely help get more people involved and would grow the community. That said, I don't think merely joining the Drupal Association or showing up to your local meetup will do the trick as it doesn't ensure there are going to be people with the knowledge or time to dedicate to these efforts. An ongoing community track (http://groups.drupal.org/node/18328) and a reinvigorated Drupal Dojo could be a good complement to various Drupal groups. Figuring out ways to match potential contributors with experts would help even more.

Add to that the ability to draft up a drupalcon site much quicker with these writeups:

Lest we forget, Africa. :)

There may not be a huge community here, but in South Africa we have quite a few Drupallers. In Fact, our company (telamenta.com) sent 5 developers/designers to Paris this year (along with 3 more from other companies), and we're hoping to send more next year.

If anyone is interested in a drupalcon/camp in South Africa, contact us, we'd love to organise something here. ;)
