tiwiex commentedI am so so sorry. I took a drupal break (:)). I am back now. Was trying to sort out some personal issues. i am currentl working on a project to create a handyman site for Nigeria. Sure we can kick off the language translation. I don't get prompts in my mailbox. would have relied since. Thanks for you responses. i promise i won't let you guys down.

gábor hojtsyWell, a plural formula defines how many plural variants you have for strings and how Drupal should choose from them. I linked http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/l10n/pluralforms above, which should provide you with an idea of what other languages use. I need the same for your language before I can set it up.

sorry i have been away for a loooooong time. issues that required extra attention. I am not sure I understand what plural form means after visiting the url http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/l10n/pluralforms#y tho youruba is listed there as yo Yoruba nplurals=2; plural=(n != 1). What does that mean. Can you point me to a url that gives me a good overview on translation? i suspect work has begun on this. will keep checking drupal.org after sending this mail.

gábor hojtsy@tiwiex: plural forms basically mean how many variants does your language have when things of multiples are considered. Eg. you bought an apple, you bought 2 apples, 3 apples, 4 apples, 5 apples, etc. Many languages have different variants depending on the number. English has two, the singular and plural variant, but other languages have more and have more complicated rules on how they apply. The plural forms codify those rules. The nplural is the number of variants used and the formula is how they are applied. Eg, if the formula is nplurals=2; plural=(n != 1), the language has two variants a singular one and another one which is applied for less than 1 (even for negative numbers) and more than one. Did this help?

I get the plural forms. i suspect we have 2 in yoruba. i tried to use the translation module and i noticed it requires direct typing of translations even for popular languages like french. i tried to use the google translation but i did not seem to get it to work for real time translation for nodes. i really need your assistance to get this going. i believe we have all the resources but if it requires a manual translation exercise, i worry for it's feasibility for now. is there a documented plan on how to go about this. based on your experience, i believe you have tonnes of resources that could help.

hanno commentedPlease find some users who are willing to join the translation effort, install a Drupal installation with the module l10n_client and start translating. Post the interested users here and ask to add the language on localize.drupal.org and import your strings.

I know only a few words of Yoruba (from studying some of the sacred music culture in Brasil), so I'd be very little help on the translation itself, but I'd be happy to be involved in a translation group if that's useful.
