should be impossible to create a form question with a single radio button

This is unlikely to be fixed. I hope to provide a live preview of components as you're editing them (which actually already does happen if you have Form Builder installed), in which case this would be very confusing if you were editing a set of radio buttons that mysteriously converted to a checkbox when there was only one option.
