Drupal used for an artist's catalog

Hi,

I have been commissioned to do a very interesting project to create a website to hold an artists entire life's work (which is a lot!).

The idea is that you will have a large collection of pages with a large picture of the artwork with some other metadata to do with the photo. The user can search for a photo. The user should also be able to browser the catalog according to the metadata data. This includes:

Time
Type of art i.e. portrait, book cover, magazine cover
Gallery located in.

This list is not inclusive.

I am thinking about designing the website so you can select a particular tag, i.e. type and then select the type you are looking for, the user could also then select time, allowing them to find the correct data.

However for other tags such as time I could code interactive time line.

Would Drupal be suitable for this sort of website and are there any existing examples people can point out.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Drupal is ideal for this type of site. I know I've seen artist and photographer sites, I just don't have any bookmarked. Checkout http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites and browse the showcase forum and case studies.

As for a timelines, you might want to take a look at the http://drupal.org/project/timeline module.
