The idea is a larger part of this: http://groups.drupal.org/node/26016 : how to make the issue queue more convenient especially to new users of drupal, provide the ability to create overarching issues and more.

Some people have started to post Meta issues to archieve that: http://drupal.org/node/536630

This simple means could be very effective to keep related isssues together without changing much in our current workflow. We have this nice feature that the issue status changes color when the issue is changed when referenced correctly by [#nodenumber].

But oh. Once I published the issue, it is not editable anymore. So it is impossible to update it, add more sub-issues to it as they emerge. So how to do this? Put them into the first comment? Does not help since each comment is only editable until the next one comes in. So all added issues would be dispersed among followup comments and the coherence gets lost and unfindable.

Talked to sepeck about it and it is seen as a problem that to implement this we would have to give node/edit access to every logged-in user.

So how about creating a special issue type for meta-issues, where the start post is editable by the author? Since probably only quite experienced users of the issue queue would want to post a "Meta Issue" I would be O.K. if only an advance user Role would get the permissions to do so.

To me this seems pretty similar to what's requested at #569552: Provide a mechanism for issue meta discussions, so I'm marking this as a duplicate.

I believe that others have created handbook pages to track these kinds of meta issues, since anyone can edit handbook pages and so it's easier to keep track of things that way instead of having to look through all the comments for additional issues related to the meta issue. I'm not sure that the handbooks are really the best place for this sort of thing, but as far as I know that's currently the only option (other than manually maintaining issue lists on groups.drupal.org).

If you want a new type for meta issues, the webmasters queue is probably the appropriate place to request and discuss something like that.
