so cool!
anyone in touch with these folks?
One more strike for Drupal
This subdomain site of www.nasa.gov shows the strength of Drupal in terms of accessibility.
The Nasa Portal www.nasa.gov, build upon Java Technology(Xalan), has a horrible HTML output with tons of HTML errors and warnings. Accessible? No!
The subdomain appel.nasa.gov, build with Drupal, has the same layout as nasa.gov, but with a pure css layout. This shows one more time what we can do with Drupal.

Won't last long :(
All publicly available NASA sites are being forced into the www.nasa.gov portal.
The pure CSS
I'm not saying how I know any of these things...
The pure CSS has little to do with the use of Drupal in this circumstance, other than demonstrating the complete brilliance slash belief in re-use & web standards of the folks involved in this implementation. In fact, internal NASA teams have been involved in providing web standards and tools to internal audiences (and *ahem* contractors) for quite a while, and the base CSS & images used in this Drupal implementation built on that and adapted it to the Drupal theming engine.
http://portalcss.gsfc.nasa.gov/nasa_template/ has the generic templates used if you're interested in seeing them.
To the best of my knowledge there's no limitation in their technology that prevents the Xalan folks from using the same core items.

Does anyone know if the NASA drupal site uses a theme I can download?
ask nicely?
You could always ask nicely, or file a FOIA request... after all my/your tax dollars are funding the site.
They do have some very nice theming on the menus.

thanks.
NASA and Drupal and online community
I'm working on several projects with NASA at the moment that will involve NASA getting more actively engaged in the F/LOSS world at large, and that will use Drupal specifically to build online communities. If you're interested in helping to hack space, drop me a line! :) We have some great stuff going on.
