Multiple menus in the footer, organized horizontally. Please help

I have 2-3 menus that I want to lay horizontally in the footer. The content in each should be vertical.

Originally the menus appear vertically and content horizontally. By changing the li to inline, the content appears vertically now (as desired), but I cannot get the menus to be next to each other. I changed the ul and the display in the footer to all different values, but cannot get the menus to be horizontal. In my simple test, it works when #footer 's display property is set to table-cell. But making the same change in the code has no effect.

Will really appreciate help on this.
