Parse error on install file

I upgraded my Imagecache to the latest 6.x-2.0-beta10 version and then received a parse error pointing to a line in the imagecache.install file. Is this file actually required once you have enabled and installed the module. I just removed the file and it doesn't throw the parse error now and also doesn't seem to be required.
