Automatic redirects created despite 'Automatically create redirects' being disabled

Hello,

Sorry if this is a duplicate issue, but I couldn't see it anywhere. I'm having the problem that I don't want automatic redirects to be created any more (I need to "switch out" one page with another in the menu structure), but automatic redirects are still being created despite the "Automatically create redirects when URL aliases are changed" option being disabled.

Could anyone offer some advice on how I might be able to go about debugging this please? I'm happy to dive into the code and make use of devel to try and identify the problem, but didn't want to go ahead if it's a known problem with a solution available.
