We are an iContact user but obviously, as we use Drupal, are wondering if we shouldn't jump ship with our expensively hosted data (not all of which can be recovered, eg. histories) and use free code such as CiviCRM which has a (kind of) working Drupal link.

Ok, I think I understand now. You are talking about the documentation at http://drupal.org/project/icontact. The links href gets "" added to the end. This is an interesting bug, I'm not sure of what exactly causes it. I simply changed each link from using double quotes around the href to using single quotes.
