I'm pretty annoyed at the upload module, but I always use the filefield module. Is it possible to use that module to upload the images instead?

I looked into filefield, but my problem with it is that it's a CCK module. So if User Badges had a dependency on it, we would be forcing everybody who uses this module to install CCK.

But note that the latest dev version allows you to enter your image URLs directly, which enables the use of images uploaded elsewhere.

User badges still has a dependency on upload even though it's not necessary to use the upload module.

That's really a different issue and should have it's own issue thread, where I would tell you that the module still breaks on certain pages without upload. There is still a dependency.
