Would it be possible to document the differences with the taxonomy_node module on the project page to make it easier for users to choose between two modules. An explanation of the different features and some use cases for which one would opt for this module vs. the other would be nice.

This is the exact opposite of taxonomy node. Taxonomy node creates a node for every term, this module creates a term for every node.
