960 robots styling issue - gigantic text and scrollbars in IE

hello drupal...longtime lurker, first time caller.

i have recently installed the 960 Robots theme for my website and found that the CSS is acting strange in my installation. the site is not TOTALLY stripped of styling, but things like font size are being greatly affected for some reason. important note: this bug only appears in IE.

things i have tried so far:

1) checked the default themes to see if the problem could be reproduced there. they all look fine (garland, etc).
2) downloaded and installed the 'unlimited css' module
3) enabled the css aggregator feature in core

still no dice.

i have the site in maintenance mode so i can't post a link. however, i attached a screenshot that gives a good representation of what things currently look like.

thanks in advance for your help:) this is probably something very simple...

(i found another thread on this, but all the fixes suggested therein have not worked for me thus far)
