First,

This is a vague question. . . How do you know its big. Please provide more detail. You hav'nt even mentioned if it is a back-end to Drupal site(s). Weather you have data there or if its empty? Please speak out tell us more about the environment tell us more about the usage if any.

If you just say too big People would say good for you.

I have dumped mysql but have never restored. I guess you are using the backup wizard that is available in CPanel. The wizard allows you to take a backup of:

  1. DB only
  2. Application only
  3. Both DB and Application

So what is the type of back-up you have taken? ? ? I guess you need to two back-ups. One for DB only and another complete back up.

Dont backup from phpmyadmin.

EDIT

Also, if you use the Wizard the backup will be a tarball.

So, you dont have to worry.

The first time I backed-up my site. I used phpmyadmin and I was shocked too to see 16 MB of data right after a plain install.

It was a very fresh install. I had only 1 user and thts the admin. So dont use phpmyadmin for backup. If you have to use it and if there is no other go, use the option wherein you can export a tarball.

I guess you are using FF??? It seems it has a bug handling JS.

http://drupal.org/node/122114

Try disabling javascript in the browser and see what happens. Do let me know If it helps.

Also, you can know the data size in your db through phpmyadmin. See if the total shows as what you say ie 600 MB.

Praveen

EDIT

TRY using different browsers, different machine and Let me know if it works
