Please help me just installed the new ubercart and bang
can't create any content and lost tons of other functions, tried to update other things that it told me needed to be fixed urgently but just got worse and worse. A good site has gone reeeeeaaaaal bad.
Note I have no idea if I could post content before I installed the new ubercart. I mean I created content fine yesterday. Is it possible I have been hacked?
I stupidly didnt backup anything prior to upgrading and I just upgraded as I have before by extracting out the new version which I thought would replace the old version. Is that an ok way to do it?
man, Im new to this stuff, I dont even know how to deal with databases yet.
Is my only hope to ask my host to revert to a week ago? I will lose a quite a bit of data....

I'm not an UberCart expert,
I'm not an UberCart expert, but since you mentioned that you didn't take a backup prior to doing the upgrade, things will be harder than they should. It's obviously not the best time, but take a backup NOW. The more you experiment the more damage you might cause to the DB content, and if you have to revert to the week old backup, at least you will have this current (but damaged) backup someone can try and recover/extract data from.
You might want to also give some specifics as to what is wrong. why can't you post content? just comments or new nodes also? all node types or just some? what functions did you lose? did the menu items/links go away or do they fail when executed. When the msg says things need to be fixed, exactly what did it say?
If you think the problem was caused by UberCart, you may want to post over on their site also
Good luck.
what did i lose
ok so when I press the side bar menu "create content" it opens the page with the title create content but there is no list of anything!
I totally lost the link in site building for the moudules - I cant find it even when i type its url i cant get to it. same with many many core functions. no permissions .
it gives a blank screen. yet the site looks and seems to work as it did before the change on the user side except for the create content.
i went into my cpanel and everything is still there,
how do people upgrade a module? I have always just extracted the file while the old one still existed and had no problems.
thanks for you advice
also
I did another check.
I can edit a node I created but I can't create a comment on anything
my site is still in zombie state
surely someone can explain what I did wrong apart from back up. I mean could you atlest tell me what possibly happened? ie when upgrading files sometimes dont over save or some bla bla tech speak
my site was running fully funcitional and just clapped out try to do the right thing - upgrade to the latest most secure! instead of secure I just destroyed everything
When I do upgrades I first
When I do upgrades I first delete all folders in the original install that contain the module(s) to be upgraded and then copy in the new folders
For example if upgrading the DATE module. The below folder and it's contents would be deleted. Copying the contents of the new DATE module into this folder and hoping that it would replace the full contents can sometimes cause problems(sometimes a file is added or dropped within the module folder, and this would lead to a folder with code mixture between releases.
example.com/sites/all/modules/date
For your ubercart upgrade, what releases did you upgrade between 1.x to 2.x or within 1.x /2.x ? are you on D5 or D6? Have you recently upgraded any other modules? And asking the obvious, you did run update.php right??
BTW you mention cpanel, first I don't use it, but their system has been mentioned in the past as doing a less than optimal installation/upgrade of drupal. Most folks do it manually so they can control what happens.
Have you checked your apache logs(or drupal watchdog) to see if any error msgs are being pro-diced?
Have you also posted this over on the ubercart site? Remember here on d.o ubercart is one of many modules, over at http://www.ubercart.org/ its their only module.
thnx Mac
I now know to first delete the old. Does that also apply to going from core 6.13 to 6.14
All updates I do are from the previous latest to the current.
I ran update.php while it was online :(
I have no idea how to do manual installation, I always just download upload to the right folder and extract and then go enable. Allow permissions or whatever and it works - Ive installed about 20 modules this way with no problems until now.
Is it possible my site could have been hacked?
apache logs (no idea where they are will do a search, are they in my cpanel?
I was going to post on ubercart actually I think either I did a bad install or a small chance someone might really not like me trying to get into the market and may have hacked me.
I have no hand-on experience with CPanel
I have no hand-on experience with CPanel, so all my comments are second hand from posts I've seen.
CPanel should(hopefully) have the apache logs available someplace. But you can always try and read them directly. About hacking, I haven't seen anything to specifically point to that, but theoretically anything is possible
At this point your best next step are the apache logs or the Drupal error reports.

ive lost all the links to in
ive lost all the links to in Admin again to my modules page and user permissions.
All this starts to happen when I have a lot of modules set up. I wonder if my free host has some thing happening in the back of my system that keeps causing an overload of some sort. Dam I wish how to just reinstall the modules link or find where the code has messed up.
and by the way the host server was hit by a virus which locked me out of my site for 2 weeks till I worked out where the encrypted password was in settings.php
I just have no luck with site building. I love drupal so much but starting to think I should just go back to boring old html. Never any problems
i changed host
new host new set up and now i can do back ups and restore thank god!
