In readme.txt, you are required to save a copy of sites/default/default.settings.php as settings.php so you have both of them in that folder. Did you do that before starting?

bueno si alguien le sale este error ya lo solucione..
entren al su archivo settings.php.. el problema es la cuenta de usuario.. una ves dentro modifiquen su cuenta de phpmyadmin
en la parte de

$db_url = 'mysql://username:password@localhost/databasename';

y ai pongan su usuaruio root, pass y el nombre de la base de datos...y listo guardan y inician otra ves la instalación..
bueno espero que les sirva..
por mi parte hasta la proxima..
