Description
I've been using the 6-x-dev-2 version locally for testing, and have noticed that it has more features, such as a Mail Service. I've also seen the notice on the site that it will be the recommended version going forwards and is due for an Alpha release soon, but I'm wondering if there is any time line on this.
I love the features of the current dev version, but since this module is such a big deal, we'd feel better using a stable release on our live site. Just wondering if there's actually a projected timeline on the release of this version
Thanks,
Ali

I just realized what I was talking about is system.mail, not its own service
However, I am still wondering if there is a release estimate...?

There has been talk amongst the maintainers about rolling a 6.x-2.x stable release for a while, although I don't know how everyone feels at this point. My feeling is we can probably roll one of the 6.x-2.x branch where we are now. I don't know of any significant feature requests in the queue and I think things are pretty stable. If we decide to backport any of the rearchitecting we do for 7.x, we could make a 6.x-3.x branch for it.
Anyone else? Thoughts?

get rid of views_services already. it sucks anyways and can't be considered a proper solution.

While this is true, its what is there and people are using it and I won't be the one who gets rid of it midstream. If we open up a 3.x branch then I'm for it.

So I took over as lead maintainer of the project this week, and I'm in the process of clearing out the 6.x-2.x queue, after which I hope to release an RC of that branch. After this work will begin focusing hard on the upgrade to 7.x. I am not looking to add any new features at this point, I'll be focused on bug fixing and stability.
So that's the stable release schedule. I'm keeping this issue open so that people know what's going on.
