In computer science, many departments have the policy to publish a submitted works as technical report. See the @techreport category here:

It would be good to support this out of the box.

It is possible for you to adjust this behavior by going to the "admin/settings/biblio/fields/typemap" page and clicking on BibTex then setting the techreport setting to what ever you like.
