Multi-site install with IMCE storage of files

I'm having some real problems trying to sort this one issue out. Okay, I have a site setup as a multi-site, in that it exists as cebug.org under my main installation. Drupal 6's installation wanted to create the files area at sites/cebug.org/files. However, IMCE does not appear to like path statements of this kind. It keeps telling me. "File browsing is disabled in directory sites/cebug.org/files." I changed the permissions on that directory to 777, as mentioned in IMCE's readme. After coming here, I found something on this here:
http://drupal.org/node/84895

But, I'm not sure if that is pertinent to this situation, nor what sort of 'hack' I'm supposed to be applying here. The IMCE install for the main site works just fine and I don't want to mess that up! Oh, and before I forget, file system is set to private so I can use the Download Counter module. (To track when someone downloads files attached to things.)

Much appreciation in advance for suggestions!

Sorry, but it seemed to me that my post did not make it into the forum as it was invisible. Nor did it show up in the tracking area of my account. I did check prior to reposting!

Browse was disabled!?!?

Think I finally sorted this out from here:
http://drupal.org/node/519742

Have no idea how, but the Browse permission had gotten turned off. Now if I can just get it to see all those directories that are there...
