OK, I'm posting this again because it's still happening, even after we tried this fix

Every now and then I get an error which reads "textimage/image/1144253623 not found" in my logs. The problem is completely intermittent. Is anyone else getting this problem? Can anyone suggest any possible reasons why textimage might fail intermittently? I'm running the latest textimage code from CVS and Drupal 4.7 RC1. The problem occurs no matter if the Drupal caching mechanism is on or off.

Hmmm.... wierder and wierder...

If I log off and try the create an account, I see a CAPTCHA textimage. If I look at the URL of that image I see it's of the forum: http://mysite.com/_textimage/image/1145213337. And yet I'm getting "file not found" errors in my logs which point to http://mysite.com/textimage/image/1144253623. i.e. the "legitimate" URL includes an underscore before the "textimage". I wonder if someone's accessing my CAPCHA images directly and trying to train a computer to read them or something? Very odd.

Have you turned on access textimages permissions in admin -> access control? That's what happened to me.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have turned on access.

I really must stress that this error is rare and intermittent.

Does anyone have any thoughts on my suggestion that the problem might actually be caused by an automated spam bot trying to access my CAPTCHA images (see my comment above)

Strange, very strange...

This doesn't happens here, is always the same value (textimage/image/1144253623)?

I changed from textimage to _textimage in last version, so that is why the path changed... Can be a cache problem too.

Yeah - it is very strange!

When I do get "page not found" messages, it seems to always be for a different number and they're from different IP addresses.

Hello,
I'm using the latest cvs of captcha and textimage on 4.7.2 and I have this problem. Sometimes the image does not appear - it seems to not appear when I've already answered one right on a previous comment, and just previewed, or actually posted. Then, it seems to disappear for awhile. Could this have something to do with sessions?

Then, there seems to be a caching issue. I disabled both modules, and the textimage still shows up on some pages for leaving comments. On the site it is on, drupal caching is enabled.

Anyone have any ideas?

Intermittent. Have all of the correct permissions.

Am going to try and change the font and see if possibly the one I am using is either corrupt or doesn't handle all of the characters it needs to, or something. Fonts are horribly popular for being at the crux of many problems. Am somewhat skeptical but it's a start. Will try and remember to report back.
