Use Drupal to build site for a book publisher?

I am going to build a website for a school book publisher. Besides a news section and text articles, the site should include a book catalogue that also serves as "home page" for each of the titles.

On this home page, users should be able to access various resources connected to each book (external links, sound/video, office-documents, pdfs, flash files, quizzes, different kinds of tests (flash/php) and so on).

All books must be sortable by levels, categories/topic, author(s) (I need an author table) and by a list of keywords/tags connected to each item.
Related books, (same author, topic, tags) must be accessible from each books home page.

The site will also need a book store/shopping cart for ordering books.
In the future, the site will need to handle access for logged in front end users, paid online content, more advanced e-learning, and some sort of eBook publication.

I have limited experience with Drupal, but have used other cms'es and I have a basic level of php/mysql understanding.

Would this be a job for Drupal, and if so – in what end should I start?
Should I base the calaloge on CCK, or some specialized module – or could Ubercart do the job for me!
(apture looks great for external resources)

All answers greatly appreciated.

Yep, drupal should be able to handle this no problem. I would definitely start with ubercart and ubercart contribs, and go from there.
