A field for the entering a domain name, a field for select a domain suffix and a button for check via ajax if available.

If the domain is not available the form can't be submitted, and a message is displayed.

I'm not sure if preventing a form submit would be within the scope of this module.

But such a CCK field could be a useful feature. A patch would therefore be welcome.
