My apologies if this is the wrong Forum. Please redirect me, if so.

I have installed and used successfully a number of modules, including CCK, vews, imagefield and filefield, and some others. I have a recurring problem of receiving an HTTP 500 internal server error upon refresh in attempting to enable a newly added module. I am using v 6.12 on a hosted site.

This does not seem to be related to any particular module. I have resolved it by removing and re-adding the offending modules, keeping my number of active modules low, and holding my mouth crooked. In other words, I really can't figure out what is going on. I did a search on this site, found some instruction re a repair.php page to rebuild the menu, which I tried, but to no avail.

I am currently trying to add the emfield module to reference video and audio files. I could see the module listed, enabled the components, then upon saving the page, got the error, and a blank page. It is enabled, though, because I see it showing up on other configuration pages. Aggh.

All help appreciated.

Here's a couple of suggestions of things to check;

  • Just to discount it, why not try using a different theme? It's entirely possible that your theme has something in it which could cause this
  • Are you doing any fancy rewriting? Poorly written rewrite matching is often a culprit
  • Make sure that your php memory limit is set to at least 128Mb

Thanks, Pobster, in response to your suggestions:

I changed the theme to a couple of commonly used options with no effect.

I have not done any fancy rewriting

And finally, in poking around my host's interface to the apps, I see that I now can update Drupal to 6.13 (not .14, yet) as well as implement an update of php. So I will try that, and try to assure I have the memory set high enough. I may need to request that of my host.

I am wondering, in the meantime, since everything seems to be working okay other than the listing of modules, if I can just access the enable/disable function of the modules by setting the status in the database, and go from there.

I have more or less the same scenario. Working with an absolute vanilla install of Drupal 1.6 on a hosted service, I download and install now current CCK modules Content and Filefield. Enable Content works AOK. Enable Filefield and get a HTTP 500 error.

New to Drupal, I've been using 'Sams Teach Yourself Drupal in 24 Hours' for a walk through the system so I've kinda hit a brick wall. As is I have no clue where to start looking for problems as Drupal does not appear to use the Syslogs provided by the host.

Any constructive help/tips on the problem/how to go about further problem determination would be much appreciated. It feels like I've already spent 24 hours isolating this problem - all part of the fun I guess.

you will need to upgrade your shared hosting or enable the module little by little (like one or 2 module for each submit)

if you can use drupal why use others?
