Hi,
I am the editor-in-chief for an international relations magazine that is looking to overhaul the back end of its website. We're looking for a site overhaul, not merely the creation of one or two modules. Below find the text of an estimate request that we have been sending to people. Message me if you're interested in talking about this, and I'll give you more info about us.

We are a student-run international relations magazine looking to overhaul our website. We have a site that has been having security issues, possibly related to an insecure CMS. In general, the CMS is very unmodular--it is difficult to add new sections or update the website. We are looking for a redesign of the website's back end that essentially preserves the current design and layout of the site. We would prefer that it use Drupal or Joomla, in order to streamline maintenance and updates and ensure better security.

The current website has the ability to upload articles, accompanying photos, author bios, etc. It has a wordpress blog linked to it. We have a slideshow on the front page featuring recent articles. Our archives show all of the content of the print and web magazines since 2003 or so. Our administrator interface is theoretically able to add users, remove them, give different privileges, etc, but currently it does not allow creation of new users or changing of passwords. The website uses PHP and mysql, but the actual CMS is proprietary--developed by one student and slightly modified by another. We have a search function that does not work properly--it searches only titles and author, and not article text.

The redesigned website would have the following features:
-Backend with full administrative features (add/delete user, change privileges, etc.)
-Upload/edit articles (note, full wordprocessing features are NOT required, we simply need to be able to put the content of the article on the website. Different headings, links, pictures etc. are also necessary, but we don't need advanced spellcheck/revision control/etc. features.)
-Add/delete/move sections. If you look at our current website, the "Print," "Perspectives" sections should be renamable, movable, etc., but they're not.
-RSS feeds for articles/sections
-Optional: A blog streamlined within the website. Currently we have a link to an blog on Wordpress, but we'd like to integrate them if possible.
-Also optional: User accounts and password protection for certain articles. Subscribers see all articles, while non-subscribers see only a subset. I would be interested in seeing how much work this is: we have not reached an executive decision on it internally, but we would like to know our options.

Please note that we are a student group and are operating under a limited budget. We have set an absolute limit of $10,000 for this project, so if the estimate is likely to be higher, don't bother calculating an exact estimate. In fact, we're hoping for a project that is under $5000.

Additionally, we have a small staff and no permanent webmaster. We will be hiring someone, but for the time being, the editor-in-chief will be your contact if you need more details.
