try going to:

You do realize that "www.example.com" is replaced with your site's URL?

new problem arised
ok , thanku i have solved this problem now i have another problem , i want to add a module regarding birthday module because i have installed drupal 6.2 and there is no module available. what should i do???????
=-=
If the module you seek is not ready fro Drupal 6.x you have 4 options
1) port it yourself
2) pay someone to port it for you
3) wait until its ported by the developer
4) use Drupal 5.x where you have access to the modules you seek
Well...
According to the Birthdays module issue queue, it looks like it should be available soon.
Option 5: Check the issue queue and put a +1 for the upgrade. I dare say there are very few modules that don't have a 6.x upgrade issue already posted for them.

Had same problem and your advice helped me
I know you posted this in 2006 and your advice helped me today in 2009! Thank you very much for saving my day!
re: site offline.
with 4.7.1 i had this problem and only got back in with example.com/q?=user
Clean URLs
That's probably example.com?q=user
The above is a failsafe way to login again, because it works whether clean URLs are possible or not. example.com/user only works when clean urls are possible.

Site Offline
I recently took my site offline to change servers. I now want to change the site online using the information supplied here I was directed to the login page when I tried to login I get site offline. I tried changing the user password in the database but nothing changed. I noticed errors on the login page could this have something to do with the problem?

I have a fresh installation
I have a fresh installation of drupal-4.7.4.tar.gz and set the site to "offline". Now I don't find a way to enter a password. I read http://drupal.org/node/56995 too.
example.com?q=user where user is the only user with adminrights, doesn't show an entry for the password. It would take me a few minutes to install again, but in this case I would like to know, what is wrong. Thanks!
This "failsafe" doesn't seem
This "failsafe" doesn't seem to work in version 6. I enabled normal caching, took the site offline, and now I can't get back in.

It does work in 6.x. I've used it myself. Did you try the thing about clearing the cookies?
Can't get in
This is a new 4.7.4 install. I stupidly took it offline.
I have tried example.com/user/1, example.com/user/2, example.com/?q=user, and example.com/?q=admin (my first user is "admin").
I cannot get in with any of those.
HELP!!!!!!
NancyDru
clean the cookies or try to
clean the cookies or try to enter with another browser.
example.com/?q=user this is the only correct query among them.
also you may try this

I did delete all the site cookies
I did delete all the site cookies and eventually got in. I can't believe there were so many cookies - are they really needed? If I had happened on another site with this many cookies, I'd add it to my banned sites list.
My site don't need no steekin' cookies!
NancyDru
to be a dynamic site, it
to be a dynamic site, it does need cookies.
so many of them ? you would have to be more verbose in what you mean by so many ?
did you check date of creation ? were they from more than one test installation ?
now that cookies are cleared how many cookies is your site generating ?
Hmm
Well, at the moment, with only a short period of time on that site today, I count at least 20 cookies. It doesn't tell when they were created, but they were all accessed and modified today.
The new site I spent most of the day on has many more than that (I found at least 44).
The ThemeBot site I visited briefly even put 5 cookies on my machine.
