I realised that not all 3rd party video provider provide the video thumbnails, e.g Tudou. Even though there is custom thumbnail function, but it is not feasible for user to upload thumbnail each time....the fact is ..they wouldn't make the thumbnail.
Is there a way for drupal to create video thumbnail automatically even though the provider do not provide? Appreciate

they may offer an api or other way of autodiscovery of the thumbnail -- patches are welcome. meanwhile, you can set the default thumbnail for a video in the field settings for thumbnail.

setting the default thumbnail for a video is better than none. But ideally we should have unique thumbnail for each video. I am not familiar with other modules like flashvideo, media mover, etc. Can any of them help achieve this purpose?
