failed to open stream: No such file or directory [#591980]

since upgrading to the latest version i get hundreds on these errors on Cron context default. The errors disappear if I disable Elysia cron and run just the Drupal cron.

Elysia Cron (include_once(modules/user/user.admin.inc) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /PATH/includes/theme.inc on line 283.

I am using the standard Drupal cron.php

Strange...
That error occours during theme initialization of the user.module.
When drupal reads theme settings (in "user_theme()") it tryes to include files specified there (and "user.admin.inc" is one of those).

But it fails in doing that.

The reasons should be some module has changed the current directory. Elysia cron does that only if called directly (skipping default cron.php = advanced install), but you are using standard drupal cron so it can't be the reason (and there are no changes in that part of code in new version).

Have you enabled or updated other modules recently?
Are you able to put some debug code in your drupal? (i'll tell you what if possibile)?

I have this in .htaccess

php_flag log_errors 1
php_value error_log php_error_log.txt

the skipping default cron.php means Elysia Cron just doesn't run at al!

I upgraded to Drupal 6.14 and also upgraded Elysia Cron and User Relationships modules recently.

.htaccess should be ok.

When talking about "calling elysia cron directly" i meant if you used istructions in ADVANCED INSTALL section of README.TXT (so you crontab is calling "wget http://..../sites/all/modules/elysia_cron/cron.php ..." instead of "wget http://.../cron.php")

Let me know if you can edit drupal php code to put some line in it, so we can put some debug code that can help in solving the problem (the error is thrown in drupal code, not in elysia_cron, so we must debug there. I have no such problem in my several installations so i cannot reproduce it).

I'll look at User Relationships code...

hi gotheric, i first tried the advanced install, calling ./modules/elysia_cron/cron.php, but that did not run cron at al, so then I used the Drupal cron.

I can for sure edit drupal php code and debug.

Ok, make a backup copy of includes/theme.inc

Then edit it: go to line 283, there should be a code like this:

        $result[$hook]['file'] = $path .'/'. $info['file'];
        include_once($result[$hook]['file']);

Change it to add 2 lines:

        $result[$hook]['file'] = $path .'/'. $info['file'];
        if (!file_exists($result[$hook]['file']))
          watchdog('debug', $result[$hook]['file']." not found. Current directory: ".getcwd(), WATCHDOG_ERROR);
        include_once($result[$hook]['file']);

That way whenever the include file does not exists a log is added with the current directory. Knowing it maybe we could guess what is that change the current directory.

P.S. About the advanced install: it gives you some error or some message? Or it simply doesn't work without telling anything?

Let me know what is logged by watchdog.

Advanced install:
if you would like to retry, try to use the url directly (pointing with your browser to http://yoursite/sites/all/modules/elysia_cron/cron.php), and see what it does.
* If a blank page appears it's ok - it must do this, look at elysia_cron statistics to see it the "last execution" updates.
* If a "not found" page found appears probably elysia_cron is not installed on "sites/all/modules" but on "modules" or in "sites/SITENAME/modules"... you should change your crontab call to reflect this.
* If something else appears let me know...

hi again @gotheric, now i have plenty of errors, so how do i get them to you?

it might interest you:

firstly, there are no errors if I run cron manually (and not from crontab)
secondly, there are no errors if I run it job by job, through http://URL/admin/build/cron
finally, i have a lot of "mysql server has gone away" messages now, and it is a big site with 200,000 + nodes. these messages appeared after I modified theme.inc (there were one or two before)

By adding the two lines above the only log added is "XXX not found. Current directory: XXX".
You should see that errors. Try to paste here some of those.

After that you can remove the two lines added.

mysql server has gone away is a bad message... it's written when mysql server crashes or has been shutten down.
I can see no relationship with an error like that and the two lines added above ...
Your watchdog log is in db or in sysv?

(Ok, now you can delete the two lines).

From that log there are a LOT of files not found, and it seems that current directory is "/".
It should be the path to your drupal installation (i don't think you have drupal in your root, so it's wrong).

I cannot think of a reason for that, elysia_cron doesn't change the current directory!
I quickly checked user relationship and seems that it doesn't change cd too.

Hmmm... 2 tests:
- could you retry the advanced install and (if not works) tell me what it does when you try the url call via browser? (see above)
- try using the nightly build of elysia cron and tell me if something changes

hi, i tried advanced install, and it does not work. called url via browser in ./modules/elysia_cron/cron.php and then moved the cron.php to the regular drupal location - in both cases watchdog was empty.

will replicate the error on a separate instance and try the nightly build

- When you call via browser elysia_cron/cron.php it's possibile you don't see anything in watchdog. You must see what appears in your screen (see above) and if the time counter in http://yoursite/admin/build/cron is updated (if "Last run:" is the time you have requested the page => elysia_cron is running)

- to use advanced install you must put elysia_cron module in "drupal/sites/all/modules" or "drupal/sites/SITENAME/modules", NOT in "modules" (this is a good practice for all modules, to keep core modules distinct from contrib modules).

@gotheric, hi, this is just to report i upgraded to verson 6.x-1.2 and the reported issues have all vanished (I had to completely uninstall the module and then reinstall everything though).

we are using the standard install, not the advanced one - and the documentation is a little obscure about the advantages of using the advanced one, would you recommend the advanced one for "familiar" but non-expert users like me? i am wondering if the error reporting is better with the advanced one.

Advanced install is always better than normal one (you need only to replace the cron.php called in your system crontab).

This is because each standard cron.php call needs to load drupal variables cache and invalidate it. EACH time, even if there are no jobs to execute. This is a little time consuming, and if your machine is full of processes this can cause a little slowness.
By calling elysia cron.php that cache thing is avoided, and all calls are faster.
