why is 6.x-1.4 not supported

Description
I upgraded from 1.4 to 6.x-2.0-rc5 when i saw that a few things were busted and that recommended version is 6.x-2.0-rc5. But it whitescreens since i am not at OG 2.x.
But i go to OG project page and it says 1.x is still a valid release and also doesn't give any reason i would want to switch to 2.0.
So maybe more a question for OG project but do i need (or is it recommended) to switch to OG 2 (and then OG_forums 2)?
i go to this when trying to sort out why breadcrumbs are busted and i see it is resolved for 2.x but not 1.4
