Email discussion list

A major stumbling block in moving an existing community over to Drupal - all hints gratefully received:

How do I create an email discussion list under Drupal?

Ideally I'd like something like the following:
Any user (and no one else) who has a particular role can post to the list, and will receive all messages
A daily digest facility, with users being able to chose whether they receive messages directly or in the digest

I've set up Listhander and Mailhandler, although I've yet to figure out how to get Mailhandler to send out the new posts

However, that doesn't keep track of the list members, i.e. of who should be receiving the list messages

Any other modules or systems that I should look at?

Thanks,

Coen

I think the missing piece of the puzzle is the http://drupal.org/project/mailman_manager module but http://drupal.org/project/mailing_list might be worth a look too.

Thanks for the suggestion. And this is a paid membership, so members would use UC Roles to buy a role for a period of time. Whilst they've got the role they should be able to send and receive list messages. As soon as the role expires they should be removed from the email discussion list

Using Mailman would mean keeping two lists in sync - in Mailman and in Drupal

Maybe the solution is to find an email distribution system which can use an SQL statement to extract the list of members - straight from the Drupal database

Other suggestions welcome
