User referrer with riderection

Description
I'm attempting to give several organic groups within a site their own look and feel. Basically, a user will be on the master site and then select a group, each group has it's own domain registered, that than forwards back to main site.
Example: User is on mainsite.com and chooses the new york group which has a url, nyc-mainsite.com, which then forwards to mainsite.com/nyc and the user should now have a whole theme that would follow them all through the site. I guess I"m asking if this module will use mainsite.com as the referrer, or the forwarding domain, nyc-mainsite.com. I hope that makes sense.
Also, is this module 4.7 compatible?
