More flexibility possible?

Description

I'm keen to use the citizen speak module on a number of drupal powered politics / campaigning websites in the UK, but there are a couple of issues which could be awkward. Firstly it's very US-specific, with Zip codes, states and so on. We have post codes, and counties. Couldn't we have a way of the creator of each campaign being able to specify which fields are offered to users when they fill in the petition and which ones are compulsory?

Secondly, the petitions look a bit lonely, I think, on a node all on their own without any introduction or context. Wouldn't it be better to also have a database field for 'explanation' or something which appears on the node above the actual petition, explaining why people should fill it in. I know I could create another node to do this, and then link the two together, but in some ways I would prefer the petition node to stand alone, but that requires it to make sense in isolation. The email text by itself doesn't necessarily do that.

Hi: Thanks for your interest in CitizenSpeak. CitizenSpeak was originally designed for a US audience. We made it open source so people could localize it for different countries.

Regarding the issue of an introduction. Our goal is to make CitizenSpeak as easy as possible and as fast as possible to use. Many of its users are very small groups often working under tight deadlines without any processes. The more they have to write, the less likely they are to sucessfully use the service. Many orgs don't have the capacity to write more while others lack any formal infrastructure meaning the more text they have the more likely they are to get bogged down in non-organized approval processes. However, as an open source module, feel free to modify as you see fit.

Hope this helps and best of luck!!!
Jo

Submit a patch that doesn't force citizenspeak.org to display the field and I'll likely include it in the module.
