but do not update already existing content type
is that the default behaviour ?
or should it update the options of the content type ?

Updating content types is not implemented. Updating fields is not implemented either. You can only import fields that do not already exist.
The ability to create a new content type is there however, to make it easy to import custom content types that already come with CCK fields and field groups in them.
