Replacement for part of a Submenu Tree functionality

I use Submenu tree module 6.x-1.4. It is set to show submenu in content area as teasers with links on some pages.
After I have installed Nodecomment module 6.x-2.0-beta1 I noticed that Submenu tree stopped working. I have posted incompatibility report here and here.

My question is: Is there a way to replace ability of Submenu tree, to sort teasers with links based on parent item and weight, with some other modules?

I was trying to accomplish that with taxonomy, but cannot find a way to sort items based on weight.

Any suggestions are welcome!
