I want to create a website that allows users to create their own personalized websites in my system. An example of what I would like to achieve is http://www.wix.com/ or http://myevent.com/. (Only my site is intended for faculty at a University)

So basically:


1) I register the user

2) They have their own web space - e.g. www.mysite.com/user
3) They can add/edit pages

4) Choose different templates

To complicate things, I also need a Drupal-free area. Some of my users do not want to use Drupal.

What is the best way to go about this - Aegir or Multisite Manager? I do not necessarily need separate databases.

YOu might ask on irc - #aegir. They're a friendly bunch of developers.

For the record, if you're looking for someone to hang your hat with - I'd do it with Development Seed.
