Right, I am at a loss here.

I have installed Upload (and checked it, it works), Image Cache and Node Gallery.

I then created a gallery.

Visiting the created Gallery I get the message:

"There are no photos in this gallery currently. Upload Some!"

Fine, so I click on Upload, then I select an image and click on Upload.

Immediately I am redirected to the original Gallery page reading:

"There are no photos in this gallery currently. Upload Some!"

So I've checked the /siteroute/files directory and there are no sign of the uploaded images, not even in the imagecache sub-directories.

Let me assure you, I have also checked that all the appropriate permissions are set.

Am I doing something wrong here?

well, lets see, first question.. do you have "clean URLs" enabled?
Image cache requires it.
Is this a live site or a local machine or wamp/xamp

EDIT: the upload module is not required.

Well, this is on a local machine, running XAMPP.

I do have clean URLs enabled.

I do have ImageAPI installed.

PS. I know the upload module is not required, but I figured that if I can upload using this module, then perhaps that would give me a clue that my server and upload folders were correctly configured.

Since you set permissions for:
view imagecache node-gallery-cover
view imagecache node-gallery-display
view imagecache node-gallery-thumbnail
create node_gallery_gallery content
create node_gallery_image content
Did you try rebuilding permissions.

from the trouble shooting handbook page.. I know this is not the same trouble, but might be worth a try entering some value for the directory.

If I turn off javascript in my browser, I can reproduce your problem. As soon as I click submit from the window where I enter the pictures to upload, I am taken back to the gallery screen. When I turn javascript on, it works.

Do you have javascript turn off on your browser? If so, turn it on and try uploading.

I have just checked that all permissions are as you said above.

I have also rebuilt permissions.

I then went through the troubleshooting page and set gallery settings as suggested, then rebuilt permissions again (for good measure) then tested again, but still no change. I still get redirected to the same gallery page that reads "There are no photos in this gallery currently. Upload Some!"

What I find strange is that no error message is displayed, no upload progress bar, nothing, just an immediate redirect.

I'm baffled.

PS. If we get this sorted, maybe you can upload a few of your photos to my *NEW*IMPROVED* version of Illustrated Photography. I really don't want to use Gallery2 (or Gallery3) on the new site, I'd much rather use a Drupal native solution like Node Gallery.

My Javascript is turned on, so that doesn't seem to be the answer, though it might be a clue.

I have also tried it across three different browsers (IE FF and GC). All deliver the same effect.

Yep, removing the call to jquery-1.2.6.pack.js solves it.

Agreed, I can't see a lot of people running into this one, also I'm sure they'll be able to find it in a good old google search if they do run into it.

well, maybe, thing is.. I have never used a core theme,lol. My first things on every new Drupal site is admin_menu, globalredirect, change theme, pathauto, token, and a handful of other favorites. I have played with node gallery in my localtoast wamp, just for working on css and views..

You guys are just doing advanced stuff with your sites.

I work on project boost the same way, but that one is a little different.. or should I say, complicated.
I watch the issues real close for the reason of providing some documentation. If it comes up more than once, it's in there. Keep no secrets, take no prisoners...lol

Generally I go back through all the fixed and closed issues every so often any see if anything is looking important.. lol
anyway, I am waiting for the new release to hit the fan and see what pieces get thrown back, if you know what I mean. Probably going to have some rewrite to do.

Speaking of advanced stuff and nice sites, I think your site should be on the Websites Using Node Gallery page.

Depending on which core theme you are using, there may be other problems because some core themes (e.g., Marvin and Chameleon) do not use the phptemplate theme engine, which breaks some modules.

A lot of issues just require good troubleshooting skills. Switching themes is one trick that is useful. It is also one trick that I rarely think of. Good thing Manamarak thought of it. :)

As for documentation, Node Gallery's documentation sets a high standard for other modules. Thanks, dbeall. Maybe a solution would be to include a link to basic Drupal troubleshooting: How to troubleshoot (read this first)

And also, I would never have spotted that changing themes would fix the problem if you didn't hand me the javascript clue. How did you think of turning javascript off? That was genius.

do you never sleep? Whenever I post, a reply comes minutes later.

Anyway, I know what you mean about the first thing you do on a new site is theme, I do that too, it sort of gives me a feel for what I am trying to do.

But after this little serendipitous fiasco, I have decided that I am now going to create the core functionality of my sites before I start theming.

Thanks for the vote of confidence by suggesting my site could make your wall of fame, but let's just see if I get it done first. The albums aspect is now completed, but there are still many other problems to sort out.

May I just take a moment to congratulate you on a great module though, I have been looking for a solid gallery module for ages, but this is the first real contender.

It does everything a Drupal community site needs and has been lacking in a gallery module. When I started my research for the redesign of the site, I kept finding threads that said things like: "a gallery module is so hard to build, because everybody wants something different."

No they don't.

For a powerful community gallery module, all you need is:

1) Per user album
2) Images as Nodes
3) Multiple upload
4) Quota

And you've nailed it all.

I would be privileged to add my site to the Websites Using Node Gallery page.

@Manamarak, I'm around all the time because I work at home making custom boat covers and web sites.

You have to thank Wilson98 and Kmonty for the module and the insight to build it.. But yes, I agree, it is a great module and it's in Alpha! I have sorted through the gallery solutions too.. some are pretty good depending on what you need, but this one has me hooked..

Tally is a pro! I have learned lots of cool stuff from him. He has a way of figuring things out that I never think of.
dddave has been a huge help, he sees things that need to be done before anyone. And he is a trouble shooter too.
If it were not for people submitting issues and patches, the module would not be where it is today, everyone wins in the end.. When this next release is done, I'm going to turn the users on my sites loose to have their own galleries.

The handbook has been updated.. next task.

Thanks, that made me laugh out loud. I admit that my site covers a topic that is far from being mainstream. :)

I agree that Node Gallery makes for a great gallery module. kmonty and wilson98 have done a great job and we have a good community supporting the module. A winning combination all the way around.
