Role choice required + registration only = "you must select a role" on profile edit page

If you select "User-selectable role choice required" and allow role selection only from registration, a user will select a role during registration, and then on first login will attempt to change password in the user profile page. When saving the changes, the user will be prompted that they must select a user role, even though they have already selected one during registration, and there is no role selection option on the page.
