Hello,

I just noticed the definition on your project page:

"Terms are related to each other if they appear on the same node. The more nodes they appear on together, the bigger they will be displayed in the cloud."

On the taxonomy term edit pages however we can set any term as a Related Term, they do not have to be assigned to the same node.

This module seems to have a different concept of relatedness than taxonomy core.

Indeed. But related terms in core does not have any functionality by itself. You'd have to use contrib modules for it. I think it's even gone in Drupal 7.
